Hetzer Ace Clicky
I finally aced the Hetzer! This vid has no sound, I'll do a voiceover and review before making it a public release.
I'm not really a slow TD kinda guy, and while people raved about the Hetzer's Derp pre-nerf, after the Nerf I'm not so convinced...
This game answers (for me at least) why the 75 wins out over the Derp. I know when facing a Hetzer in a speedy light or medium, its my rate of fire and the Hetzer's slow reload that makes me feel pretty happy; plus its rare to get one-shotted in most tanks that I face in the Hetzer, especially if I don't show them my rear...
The better accuracy of the 75 means long range high pen spam is possible from distance, and when facing high HP pool tanks heavies, or speedy high DPM lights and mediums, I want to do damage from as far away as possible as early as possible.
As the tank was fairly new, I didn't have any equipment installed, I was really just grinding it so I can get practice on the Stug to prepare myself to break in the E25. But I would have liked to have had binocs installed to get a bigger share of the credits from the spotting done by my team. Rammer obviously as DPM was a game winner here, and maybe vents to improve both of these.
I would have chosen binocs over optics as the Hetzer isn't really going to be chasing anyone down, finding a nice ambush spot and waiting makes better use of the Binocs. I was lucky not to have been spotted until the bulk of the enemy reds were removed, if a heavy had made it through the first rush, it probably would have been different game outcome.
The end game is what really made me laugh, backing into that little corner made me feel like a cornered rat with sharp teeth, the first Hetzer was right not to charge in and he tried to fall back to his friends, I'll be using that spot more often in the future, it also gives a great line of sight to the hill and shows why it can be a game changer if paired with a hill spotter (Thanks sacrificial Leopard). The light should have run and found a flanking position, if he had done that, the game would have had a different outcome. I was also lucky to make a wreck of the first hetzer to provide cover for me as I reloaded...
Its still not a go-to tank for me, the sluggish movement is frustrating, especially against tanks like the t34, Luchs or Leo that are fast enough to get around me, have high enough pens to neutralise my armour, and that have hit point pools that are high enough to neutralise the fear factor of even the bigger gun. Its certainly not a tier 4 su152.
One thing this vid didn't make much use of is the hull down potential of the Hetzer, having the higher ground with decent gun dep means that many tanks have trouble penning it from the front as the armour angles more creating higher effective armour. If caught in the open without cover, hiding the lower glacis is always a good idea.
And the gun is off centre, so (unlike Zoolander) the Hetzer (and the M3Lee) prefers to turn left (go anticlockwise) around objects. This minimises the amount of tank visible while exposing the gun. For this tank, the huge gun mantlet gives cover for the rest of the front.
Enjoy!
